NEARLY five decades of service by Andy Anderson were recognised as the popular Scotsman won this year’s Chairman’s Award.
Andy Lynch was delighted to present the trophy to his namesake some 36 hours before the end-of-season awards night.
Fittingly it took place in front of the Friday Club, the group of volunteers who have Old Bath Road always looking immaculate.
Haggis has been a stalwart at OBR since first arriving in 1978, playing in the front row for the 1st XV until he broke his neck in the early 80s against Old Fullerians.
He was awarded an Honours Cap in 2024 after continuing to provide help all around the club.
The scoreboard operating king, Andy sadly suffered a stroke last autumn, but showed typical tenacity in fighting back.
Indeed, his first concern was whether the scores for the next home game would be correct while recovering in hospital.
And it was wonderful when he first returned to OBR to watch the first team earlier this term, latterly resuming Friday Club duties.
