Rams biggest defeat for 12 years

Bishop's Stortford 53 Rams 5

Gary Reynolds, the Rams CEO, believes the club will bounce back from their biggest league defeat in 12 years.
He said:”We’ll have key men back from injury and unavailability for the home derby against in-form Chinnor next week.”
“It’s easy to see why Bishop’s Stortford have beaten National 2 South leaders Cambridge twice this season and have the best defence in the league.”
Depleted Rams were no match for the Herts men in their worst setback since losing 77-8 away to Dorchester in 2004.
They were overwhelmed up front, forced into mistakes, and troubled by a lively back division.
Rams only threatened the home line in the closing stages when they managed a consolation try through Ollie Taylor.
By the ninth minute they were 10-0 down with a catch-and-drive try from Rory Young, then were caught napping at a quickly taken line-out by Sam Coleman.
It could have been worse but twice Stortford had scores ruled for a foot in touch.
Despite being under severe pressure Rams held out until just before the break. Stortford forced a penalty try improved by George Cullen who added a penalty for a 20-0 half-time lead.
Rams had by this time lost Taylor to a yellow card for not rolling away.
The second half was more or less one way traffic as they fought to contain Stortford, who added two tries through Baxter Wilson.
It was 41-0 by the 64th minute after a touchdown from Rory Bates before Taylor’s catch and drive effort for the Rams.
In the end the hosts topped the half century through two Joe Clarke touchdowns and Cullen’s fifth conversion.
Rams are still mathematically in danger of relegation but it would require a complicated and unlikely series of results in the final two rounds of matches to see them down.
Rams: Foxley; Corrigan, Barnes, Bryant, Duffelen; Flower, Drury; O Smith, Henderson, Steadman, Bryson, Taylor, Guttridge, Wood, Stapley. Reps: Knowles, Crame, J Smith, Amor, Richardson
