UNDER 15s coach Nick Flynn was delighted with the squad’s best-ever tour as they returned from a memorable trip to Holland with silverware.
A day of travel saw the squad leave Old Bath Road at 5am on Good Friday before they took on Gouda Rugby Club’s U16s the following lunchtime.
In a pulsating and physical battle, the hosts ultimately edged to a 19-14 victory, before the coaches took part in their Easter Vets game – will all of them scoring.
The following day saw the U15s compete with more than 70 clubs from across Europe at Hilversum RFC.
Two wins against Dutch sides preceded a loss to Bishop’s Stortford, but a win against Queen Elizabeth School set-up a final versus Birmingham Moseley.
And a superb display meant Rams took the spoils 15-0.
After receiving the trophy, the squad returned to Centre Parcs for more time in the pool, rapids and slides followed by the end-of-tour social.
Nick said: “This was our best tour to date – an incredible experience.
“Gouda are probably the most welcoming and charming club we have ever travelled too – not only did they look after the boys, they also fed all our travelling parents and coaches.
“Then against Moseley everything clicked for the boys, and it was the team’s best ever performance.
“Anyone interested in an international tour should consider Holland.
“It’s great value, incredibly friendly and hospitable people. Gouda would host any age group in a flash and Centre Parcs is ideal for teenagers.”
