JOHN Savill’s magnificent 30-plus years of support to Rams were recognised as he collected the Bill Taylor Memorial Award for Club Contribution.
Arriving in the mid-1990s as an Under 9 age group coach, John was also a regular referee for junior matches.
He was also a big contributor to the Berkshire Society of Rugby Referees during a marvellous career officiating.
And having taken the Minis through to Colts, he continued to take the whistle for many years to come.
John has also been a significant part of the Friday Club in recent years, the volunteer group who help keep Old Bath Road looking pristine.
John was presented with the trophy by his namesake, John Taylor, at the end-of-season awards night.
Chairman Andy Lynch heaped praise on the winner, stating: “John has been a wonderful supporter of the club for more than 30 years.
“He coached the same age group as my son and was a first-class referee, one of the better ones in Berkshire.
“Everyone wanted John to referee their age-group games!
“He never misses a home Rams game now, provides hours of help with the Friday Club and is a thoroughly deserving winner of the award.”
